At the entrance of King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) in Jeddah, lighting becomes more than functional—it defines a moment of arrival. The project’s concept focuses on illuminating the grand canopy structure through an upward projection of light, transforming a structural gateway into a sculptural experience. Using high-performance projectors aimed toward the canopy, the design achieves a remarkable 200 lux from the reflection of light—creating an even, diffused glow that enhances the architectural form without direct glare. To refine the visual quality, custom filters were applied to each projector, softening light emission and delivering a gentle yet powerful luminosity. The lighting design emphasizes contouring and precision, tracing the edges and planes of the canopy to accentuate geometry and depth. This careful orchestration of optics and reflection allows the gate to shift dynamically through the night—appearing bright and welcoming from a distance, yet calm and elegant upon approach. Through technical accuracy and aesthetic balance, the KAEC Gates achieve a beautiful visual harmony that celebrates both innovation and simplicity. The result is a glowing landmark that welcomes visitors with warmth, clarity, and a distinctly contemporary sense of place.
